The Chief Fire Officer invited Members to review the pay of the Chief Fire Officer (and consequently of all Principal Officers).
Members were informed that the Gold Book pay award had been settled nationally at 3% from January 2024 and the Grey Book pay award from July 2024 at 4%. Members were asked to consider increasing the Gold Book pay award to match the Grey Book pay award by the differential of 1%. The Treasurer confirmed that potential pay awards detailed within the report were affordable within the current medium-term financial plan.
Members took time to debate the recommendation of reviewing the Chief Fire Officer's pay against the national pay of Chief Fire Officers and concluded as follows.
RESOLVED that:
i) the Chief Fire Officer's pay be increased by 1% to £158,760 to match the Grey Book pay award to come into effect from 1 July 2024 to coincide with the Grey Book pay award.
ii) the Chief Fire Officer's pay be increased by a further 7.5% with immediate effect to £170,667.
iii) other Officers whose pay is determined by reference to the Chief Fire Officer's salary have their salaries increased proportionately.
